Reducing Carbon Dioxide Emissions

For years, coffee husks have been burned on the open patios of the dry mill after the hulling process, discharging carbon dioxide. As part of our environment protection efforts, in Nicaragua we are developing different initiatives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by using the husks produced in the green coffee hulling process in CISA Exportadora’s dry mills.

A large percentage of the husks produced in the dry mill is burned in furnaces and the heat generated is used for the coffee drying process. With this process, Mercon is reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
